Slumped down and defeated, she struggled for the strength to pull her seat belt on. This had become an ordinary end to the school day, and the lump in my throat swelled as the hurt visibly started to drip down her face.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI told her that wasn\u2019t a nice thing to say, Mom,\u201d<\/em> she reported back one day, <em>\u201cand she yelled at me!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The two girls had come to a bridge that my daughter refused to cross. The friendship she held most dear became the first one she had to let go of. Back at home, I held my heartbroken tween in my arms, and I felt a tug on my heart: Release.<\/p>\n<p>Worse than seeing my girl crushed to pieces was knowing that she had followed me there. For years, I had found a way to forgive every offense and unfair hurt from the other girl\u2019s mother, but her behavior never changed in our friendship. I knew I had to do something for my sake and my daughter\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p><em>Love does not mean enabling harm. Forgiveness does not always mean reconciliation. Kindness does not mean silence.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2 data-end=\"4329\" data-start=\"4264\"><strong data-end=\"4329\" data-start=\"4264\">What Does It Mean to Love One Another When Someone Hurts You?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p data-end=\"4499\" data-start=\"4358\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ibelieve.com\/christian-living\/is-it-actually-possible-to-love-one-another.html\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"><em>To love one another<\/em><\/a><em>\u00a0as Jesus does is not to ignore sin or excuse harm, but to respond with truth, compassion, forgiveness, and courage. This is a story of how to love and receive love when human relationships are at their messiest. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.\u201d &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblestudytools.com\/john\/14-27.html\">John 14:27<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Bible clearly tells us not to be afraid. Matthew instructs us to go to each other when there is a problem. I had sought peace with my friend through direct conversations over the years, but the hurt was still affecting our relationship as well as our daughters\u2019 relationship. Forgiveness was feeling much like our front door mat. No admission of guilt or promised change in behavior. This explanation separates the behavior from the person\u2019s identity. Society has a hard time doing that. It will label us by what we do or do not do. We know we are to forgive, but let\u2019s be honest, that is an extensive and sticky process most of the time. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ibelieve.com\/christian-living\/9-keys-to-biblical-forgiveness.html\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Starting the process of forgiveness<\/a> should absolutely be immediate, but we must allow time for God to heal and coach us through the road to reconciliation.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cShe wants to know if she can play with me on the playground,\u201d my daughter said the following school year, \u201cI know I should do the right thing and include her, but I don\u2019t want to play with her.\u201d<\/em><br \/><em>\u201cWhat don\u2019t you like about her behavior?\u201d\u00a0<\/em>I asked.<br \/><em>\u201cShe says mean things to and about people,\u201d\u00a0<\/em>she answered.<br \/><em>\u201cPull her aside and inform her she may play, but not if she starts to say mean things about people,\u201d\u00a0<\/em>I guided.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10px;\"><em>Photo Credit: \u00a9Unsplash\/Fer Troulik<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mb-5 md:mb-8\">\n<picture><source srcset=\"https:\/\/i.swncdn.com\/media\/800w\/via\/images\/2026\/07\/30\/47054\/47054-1200-x-627-cms-main-article-image-12_source_file.webp\" type=\"image\/webp\"><\/source><\/picture>\n<h2 class=\"text-2xl font-bold\">&#8220;We are all loved by God.&#8221;<\/h2>\n<div class=\"md:text-xl\">\n<p>The girl might not like it, but she\u2019ll be suffering the consequences of her own actions without a check on her behavior.<\/p>\n<p>Separate the behavior from the person. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ibelieve.com\/christian-living\/seeing-the-face-of-christ-in-others.html\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">We are all loved by God.<\/a> And the ones doing the bullying need Love just as much as those left hurt in their wake. That doesn\u2019t mean we excuse hurtful behavior. We likely won\u2019t argue someone to Jesus, but we can be witnesses through our extravagant love for them. I believe it\u2019s just as important to invest in a kid who is bullying as much as the kid who is being bullied.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">Bullying is not a small issue.\u00a0<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/youth-violence\/about\/about-bullying.html\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"><em>CDC describes bullying\u00a0<\/em><\/a><em>as a form of youth violence that causes harm, and national education data shows that about\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/nces.ed.gov\/programs\/coe\/indicator\/a10\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"><em>19% of students ages 12\u201318 reported being bullied during school in 2021\u201322.\u00a0<\/em><\/a><em>But caring adults and courageous peers can make a difference.
