Odds are, at<\/span> this point you\u2019ve probably seen or know someone who has a smart bird feeder. They\u2019re fairly recognizable from a distance with their clear housing, cameras, and solar panels, and perhaps a friend or family member has sent you a photo or video of a bright goldfinch or handsome woodpecker (guilty). The question at this point, then, is whether these things are really<\/em> worth the $100-plus price tag. Are they actually durable? And what about the squirrel problem?<\/p>\n

Lucky for you we\u2019ve been testing the most popular smart bird feeder models, including Netvue\u2019s original Birdfy feeder ($135)<\/strong><\/a> and Bird Buddy’s new Pro model ($219)<\/a>,<\/strong> for months on end\u2014in rain, snow, and heat, and in a yard with persistent squirrels. We\u2019ve explored the apps and notification settings, installed any optional solar panels, and used Cornell Lab\u2019s All About Birds<\/a>\u2014as well as Google Lens<\/a> and our own local expertise\u2014to verify the accuracy of AI identifications.<\/p>\n
