Every new edition of the design, first introduced in 1957 and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/story\/omega-speedmaster-moonwatch\/\">selected by NASA<\/a> in 1965 for the US space program, is pored over in minute detail.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">Normally, that\u2019s because changes to the Speedmaster are rather incremental. But in September 2024, Omega forums lit up with activity as leaked images of a radically different design began to circulate. The watch is known simply as the <a data-offer-url=\"https:\/\/www.omegawatches.com\/watches\/speedmaster\/two-counters\/pilot\/product\" class=\"external-link\" data-event-click=\"{&quot;element&quot;:&quot;ExternalLink&quot;,&quot;outgoingURL&quot;:&quot;https:\/\/www.omegawatches.com\/watches\/speedmaster\/two-counters\/pilot\/product&quot;}\" href=\"https:\/\/www.omegawatches.com\/watches\/speedmaster\/two-counters\/pilot\/product\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Speedmaster Pilot<\/a> and retains many of the features that debuted on its service-only forebear. It uses the same 40.85 mm case with a matte brushed finish\u2014a rarity for Speedmasters, chosen to minimize reflections in the cockpit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">Unlike the classic Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional, with its chronograph subdials at 3, 6 and 9 o\u2019clock, the Speedmaster Pilot has what\u2019s known as a two-register layout, with subdials at 3 and 9 o\u2019clock and a discreet date window at 6 o\u2019clock.
