One major omission from this model is a backlit keyboard, which is disappointing if you want to use it in the dark. Older CX34 models came with a backlit keyboard, so, curiously, Asus opted not to ship one on this updated version.<\/p>\n

The good news is that, despite the lack of a backlight, the keyboard is comfortable to use for long periods. It has a solid amount of travel and never feels onerous to type on. If I had to name one quibble, it\u2019s the small size of the home-key ridges on the \u201cF\u201d and \u201cJ\u201d keys, which make it a little harder to touch-type.<\/p>\n

The trackpad is large and spacious, though the material it\u2019s made of creates more drag on your finger than I\u2019d like. I also encountered one bug with the trackpad during testing where it was unresponsive after waking the CX34 from sleep. This seemed to be a one-off and was remedied by a restart (a quick process for Chromebooks), but it\u2019s worth noting.<\/p>\n

For everyday work and web browsing, the touch display on the CX34 is fantastic. It\u2019s a 14-inch, 1,920 x 1,080 pixel panel that looks crisp and cuts down on a decent amount of glare with a matte finish. It isn\u2019t the brightest display out there though, and it can struggle when working outdoors on a sunny day.<\/p>\n
