Once ants know food is in your home and can get in, they won\u2019t stop, so you\u2019ll want to take steps to prevent them immediately.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-are-ants-getting-into-your-dog-and-cat-food\"><a\/>How Are Ants Getting Into Your Dog and Cat Food?<\/h2>\n<p>The first and most effective step for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/2014-01\/documents\/preventpest.pdf\">preventing future ant incursions<\/a> is finding their entry point. Some of the most effective DIY, pet-friendly insecticides include the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Vinegar-based bug spray<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/todayshomeowner.com\/pest-control\/guides\/is-vinegar-a-good-bug-repellent\/\">Vinegar-based bug sprays<\/a> are a mixture of one part vinegar to two parts water, with about a tablespoon of dish soap. Add this solution to a small spray bottle and apply it directly onto ants, killing them quickly.
